I'd say the friends list is a must, and maybe u could be able to join ur friend through the list and see if they are online?
Also the dedicated servers would be great if there are thousands of players.. but i have a feeling they would be empty most of the times so maybe its a hassle for not that much of an improvement.
A higher level cap would be nice too :)

Personally I think that the whole bypassing the router thing would be best, that is, if it would make it so that I wouldnt have the whole " Ping over 5000" thing that makes my game mess up so much that I might as well not play online, because everyone who i play with hates me. :'(

But if i have no idea what i am talking about (which I dont, but this might be a lucky guess) then I would really like to incinerate some seals with the flamethrower. :D
